I'll use this to put stuff I have about the minor leagues that perhaps I don't think should be on the front page. The Minor League module on the side of the main site will be updated any time I do something major, but a lot of minor league happenings will just bore most people.
It's an exciting time for the Cubs minor leagues with Tyler Colvin and Jeff Samardzija in the bigs and the Arizona Fall League starting soon. Cubs top prospects Josh Vitters, Andrew Cashner, Starlin Castro, John Gaub, and Wellington Castillo will play in the AFL.
Right now I have a tentative Top 5 prospect list, with the Top 10 still being up in the air.
1. Castro
2. Jackson
3. Cashner
4. Vitters
5. Carpenter.
That is what I'm thinking right now, but with the AFL coming up it could change.

Fangraphs talks about some of our young Korean prospects. The first two guys- Hak-Ju Lee and Dae-Eun Rhee have serious potential.

Was there any reliever in the Cub system better than John Gaub this year? His AAA stats:
31.1 IP, 1.72 ERA, 1.053 WHIP, 11.5 SO/9, 1 HR allowed.
AA stats:
28.2 IP, 2.83 ERA, 1.256 WHIP, 12.6 SO/9, 3 HR allowed
The strikeout numbers are phenomenal for a lefty, but his walks rate is a little concerning: 5.3 per 9 innings in AA and 4.6 in 9 innings in AAA. At 24 he still has some time left to develop, but not much. It sure would be nice to get some solid contribution from the DeRosa trade between either him or Jeff Stevens.

Baseball America ranked the Top 20 prospects from the Northwest League today and look who is number 1. Hak-Ju Lee. Also making the list at number 3 is Brett Jackson and at 19 is Logan Watkins. |
