About TCB

Talking Chicago Baseball was founded in February 2009 as a way for the authors to whine about the Cubs and White Sox. Now it is a top destination for all the latest Cubs and White Sox news and analysis. We have all the current news for both teams in Chicago and proudly do so with as much bias as possible.

Emptying out some Rumors | Print |  E-mail

The best part of this time of year is watching the team eliminated from the playoffs panic and the rumors that they will drop every player on the team. For the Cubs this isn't the case for one season, instead we get a ton of Milton Bradley rumors and some free agents sprinkled in. Here is the rundown.

First the Dave Duncan of hitting coaches, Rudy Jaramillo, might be a free agent after this month. While I don't like linking to Phil Rogers crap this rumor might actually have some legs to it. If he does decide to leave Texas the Cubs should offer him whatever it takes, he's already worked with Alfonso Soriano before and with Milton Bradley too.

Where will Milton Bradley go? In a massive post at his blog Bruce Miles gets in to the typical names we've heard. Aaron Rowand (probably the best chance to not be horrible) and Pat Burrell (disaster) will be the most likely guys to come back. Of course I would still keep Bradley, but I've let that ship sail away. Bruce also talks the two second basemen (Placido Polanco and Felipe Lopez) that many Cubs fans want, I'd probably take either at the right price.

The Mets could be an interesting trade partner for the Cubs given that they might be willing to move Jose Reyes. It would take a massive package that might change two franchises, but it's something I would love to see happen.

Finally Tim Hudson turned down his option for next season and will be a free agent. He had Tommy John surgery and only pitched the last month this season, but he is still an elite pitcher and I would love the Cubs to take a look at him. It looks like Hudson might stay in Atlanta though.

I'll post more rumors as they come both here and on twitter. Expect things to get really busy right after the World Series ends.
