About TCB
Talking Chicago Baseball was founded in February 2009 as a way for the authors to whine about the Cubs and White Sox. Now it is a top destination for all the latest Cubs and White Sox news and analysis. We have all the current news for both teams in Chicago and proudly do so with as much bias as possible.

The Sox have agreed to terms with OF Andruw Jones in a deal reportedly worth 1 year half a million dollars.
This deal came out of left field (no pun intended), but I like it a lot. It's not often you can sign a guy who has as much power as this guy does for half a million dollars. Now I know Jones will not be a mainstay in the Sox lineup, but it never hurts to have another power bat off the bench. Jones has had a brutal past few years as he has hit, .217, .158, and .222 in the last three years.
But what he has done, has added the some more pop to the Sox bench. They now have a solid pinch hitter in Kotsay, a great defensive replacement in Vizquel, and some outfield depth and a power bat. I think for once in a long time the Sox actually have an above average bench.
All in all, this is a nice deal for the Sox because it didn't cost the Sox hardly anything, and Andruw Jones may still have some talent left in him, at least I hope. And if he doesn't, who cares it only cost us 200K more than a minimum salary guy, so you can just cut him loose.
