About TCB
Talking Chicago Baseball was founded in February 2009 as a way for the authors to whine about the Cubs and White Sox. Now it is a top destination for all the latest Cubs and White Sox news and analysis. We have all the current news for both teams in Chicago and proudly do so with as much bias as possible.

According to this ESPNChicago.com article by the always reliable Bruce Levine, the Cubs are talking to John Grabow's agents about a multi-year contract. This is something that has been expected since before the end of the season, and I think is a sound move if it goes through. Grabow didn't allow a run in 25 of his 30 appearances as a Cub and showed an ability to keep the ball in the park (only 1 HR allowed in 25 IP). He has shown some durability while logging 72+ innings the last two years. Grabow certainly isn't flashy, but he is a decent left-handed, veteran piece to have in the bullpen. The free agent market for left-handed relief doesn't offer much improvement either, so keeping a guy familiar with the team is smart.
I've written on this site before how effective Sean Marshall was out of the bullpen, and how the team is best served with him strictly in a relief role. Grabow and Marshall (and Gorzelanny if needed) would provide some of the more reliable left-handed relief the Cubs have had since Mike Remlinger was in the twilight of his career.
